Latest News in Gentle Lynchburg Exercise for Chronic Low Back Pain Relief

Chronic low back pain (CLBP) negatively impacts life for its sufferers. Lynchburg chronic low back pain sufferers want their lives back. Palmer Chiropractic Center has a chiropractic treatment plan with options that do just that. The treatment plan often involves chiropractic spinal manipulation like Cox® Technic along with gentle exercise and nutrition. A couple recent insights about effective exercise interventions are presented here for our Lynchburg back pain patients’ consideration as it’s for you to decide to choose what exercise works for you!

WALKING AND MIND-BODY THERAPIES: Gentle Exercise Options

Walking works, so do mind-body therapies like yoga. An analysis of 31 randomized control trials of 3193 participants, walking came across as effective as control interventions for short term relief of chronic low back pain and somewhat superior for intermediate term pain relief and activity limitation improvement while yoga was more effective to reduce pain and improve activity in the short term. Doing both yoga and walking was proposed as a valuable combination for chronic low back pain patients. (1) In an analysis of 18 randomized controlled trials, yoga reportedly decreased pain in the short to intermediate term and to improve functional disability from short to long term compared to non-exercise, usual care, and education. But it had equal effects on pain and disability as other exercise modes or physical therapy. (2) Most everyone can walk. Some enjoy physical therapy exercise. Most can do yoga if they want. Palmer Chiropractic Center understands that not every exercise option may be our Lynchburg back pain sufferer’s “thing”! Options are key to participation...and Palmer Chiropractic Center has them!

MOTOR CONTROL EXERCISES

One group of researchers wrote that current evidence doesn’t suggest that any single form of exercise is better than any other for back pain relief. That’s interesting! They did report that exercise is modestly effective treatment for CLBP, a major health and socioeconomic issue (cost, disability, missed work).  The most common form of exercise for back pain relief was described as being motor control exercise which works on the deep muscles and their coordination. Reportedly not superior to other types of exercise, motor control exercise should be an option for chronic low back pain patients among other kinds of exercise. The researchers suggested that the choice should be made by the patient in collaboration with his/her doctor/therapist. (3) Palmer Chiropractic Center chats with each Lynchburg back pain sufferer to find out what exercise will work and will be performed. That’s the key!
