Do something. Move. Walk. Stretch.
Patients who suffer with pain benefit when they do
something. A lack of exercise is a risk for worsening
pain, both pain in the body and pain in the mind in the form of depression.
Palmer Chiropractic Center takes care of many Lynchburg back pain
patients in pain who also suffer with depression. Palmer Chiropractic Center
also understands that when our Lynchburg
chiropractic patients do something, they improve in body and
mind.
NO EXERCISE RAISES RISK OF STENOSIS PROGRESSION
Spinal stenosis is a common diagnosis. It’s
the lessening of the spinal canal area because of degeneration. A recent study reported
that risk of spinal stenosis progression is greater for those who
had spondylolisthesis, had pain (in leg and/or back) when
walking, and more severe stenosis. The absence of therapeutic exercise
was also found to a risk factor for the advancement
of spinal stenosis. (1) Back pain sufferers like those with spinal
stenosis and spondylolisthesis must exercise! Palmer Chiropractic Center helps each of our chiropractic patients find what exercise is right for them.
EXERCISE IMPROVES FUNCTION
Nonspecific low back pain sufferers improved
their functional disability status more with
stabilization and/or McKenzie exercises than with conventional exercise
programs. (2) Note though that exercise did help, conventional or not!
EXERCISE IMPROVES DEPRESSION
For many back pain sufferers with specific or non-specific
back pain, chronic or not, may well describe themselves as
a little sad when their back pain hangs around a while. It’s not uncommon. Once more,
exercise to the rescue! Another study showed that exercise
(low dose or moderate-dose strength and conditioning) helped reduce
depressive symptoms in adults with chronic low back pain. Combining
exercise and manual therapy was a bonus! (3) Palmer Chiropractic Center brings
in as many positive approaches to back pain relief as
possible to help our Lynchburg back pain patients! The Cox® Technic System
of Spine Pain Management is one of those approaches.
