Vitamin D deficiency is a worldwide epidemic.. 14%
of the world population has poor
vitamin D levels. (1) One study reports that it
affects 1 billion people worldwide. (2) Low vitamin D status is linked
to a wide assortment of diseases. Bettering
vitamin D levels is beneficial and easy…if vitamin D supplementation is taken.
Palmer Chiropractic Center encourages our Lynchburg chiropractic patients to know
and improve as necessary their vitamin D levels.
Palmer Chiropractic Center is sure that positive health benefits
will result from this effort.
DISEASES LINKED TO LOW VITAMIN D LEVELS
A rampant vitamin D deficiency is correlated
with many diseases. The incidence of cancers like lung, pancreatic,
colorectal, kidney, breast
is associated with low vitamin D levels. Diabetes, rickets, rheumatic
arthritis, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer diseases, benign paroxysmal positional
vertigo, osteomalacia, osteoporosis, and fractures in adults are as well.
(1, 2, 3) Vitamin D plays a key role in calcium
homeostasis, skeletal metabolism, and the function of immune, cardiovascular
and reproductive systems. (2) Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo is also research-related
to vitamin D status and bone mineral density. (3) Vitamin D3 supplementation is effective in its care. Testing
for the occurrence of osteopenia/osteoporosis in these patients is the test
as to the success of the treatment. (4) Palmer Chiropractic Center
notes that this is interesting as these two conditions are also known to be influenced by vitamin D status as well. Lynchburg
chiropractic care at Palmer Chiropractic Center benefits Lynchburg chiropractic
patients with these conditions.
BENEFITS OF IMPROVING VITAMIN D LEVELS
Supplementing those who take antidepressants with vitamin D
is shown to improve the antidepressive effect. Researchers propose
that vitamin D may be beneficial for other such conditions beyond just
depression like schizophrenia, cognitive disturbances, attention deficit
disorder, and autism. (1) Giving a daily level
dose of vitamin D (1000 units/kg I.P.) to post-surgical back patients on day one through day 21 lessens
symptoms of neuropathic pain. (5) Palmer Chiropractic Center acknowledges how
these benefits are worth the effort our Lynchburg
chiropractic patients would take on to elevate
poor vitamin D levels.
HOW TO RAISE VITAMIN D LEVELS
A study of healthy young women revealed that taking
calcium plus vitamin D (1500 IU) by those with less than 20ng/L or 800 IU of
vitamin D by those with levels of greater than 20
ng/L. Both saw their vitamin D levels increase. The rise was witnessed
as early as the first month
of the study for those taking calcium plus vitamin D. An
interesting side finding in this study: It’s hard
to get people to do what is suggested! Only 67 of the 106
study women followed the directions for the three months of the
study! (6)
