What Can Photobiomodulation Therapy Do?

Photobiomodulation Therapy is a new technology that can be used in place of acupuncture. It also has several therapeutic uses when used in conjunction with chiropractic therapy.

If you have any of the following types of pain, you should ask your chiropractor at Palmer Chiropractic Center if this procedure is right for you. We serve the residents of Lynchburg and Altavista, VA, and are happy to answer your questions about how Photobiomodulation Therapy might benefit you.

Arthritis

Photobiomodulation Therapy is one of the few pain relief procedures outside of medication that has been shown to work on arthritis. Typically, the laser is focused on acupuncture points, releasing photons deep inside the joint that can promote healing.

Many people who suffer from arthritis feel relief shortly after their first appointment, although many patients must schedule multiple appointments in order to have longer pain relief.

Joint Injuries

Because Photobiomodulation Therapy can reach hard-to-reach areas in the joints, it can be an ideal therapy for people who have repetitive stress injuries in their joints.

Depending on the type and location of the pain, a broad-spectrum setting might be used. This may also be combined with IR therapy or heat therapy to further reduce pain and swelling in these areas.

Damaged and Pulled Muscles

This type of injury can come on very suddenly and be very debilitating. For patients suffering from this condition, chiropractors will often combine a standard chiropractic appointment with Photobiomodulation Therapy. This gives the patient the advantage of having the muscle moved by the doctor, and then the laser can infuse the site with photons that enter the muscle cells and promote healing.
