Class 2 Cold Laser Therapy

Erchonia Cold Laser Therapy: Gentle Light, Powerful Healing

Our office uses advanced Erchonia Class 2 “cold” lasers – including the XLR8, EVRL, and GVL – to help reduce pain, speed healing, and support recovery from injuries and surgery without heat, needles, or drugs.

These lasers use very low‑level red, green, and violet light to “coach” your cells to heal better, not to cut or burn tissue.

How Erchonia Lasers Work (In Layman’s Terms)

Cold laser therapy is like giving your cells a gentle dose of extra sunlight where they need it most.

  • The laser light is absorbed by your cells’ “engines” (mitochondria).
  • Those engines make more cellular energy (ATP), so cells can repair, clean up inflammation, and rebuild tissue more efficiently.
  • At the same time, the light helps calm down chemicals that cause pain and swelling, and improves local blood flow.

Because the power is low and there is no heat, the treatment is painless and very comfortable.

The Different Lasers We Use

Each Erchonia laser uses specific colors of light to target different layers and types of tissue.

XLR8 Cold Laser

  • Uses specific red (and related) wavelengths designed for pain and inflammation.
  • Great for muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments, and nerve‑related pain.
  • Helps reduce pain, improve range of motion, and speed recovery from injuries or surgery.

EVRL Red & Violet Cold Laser

  • Combines red (635 nm) and violet (405 nm) light in one handheld device.
  • Red light supports deeper tissue healing and blood flow; violet light has strong effects on skin, superficial tissues, and even bacteria on the surface.
  • Useful for musculoskeletal pain, wound healing, skin and incision issues, and areas that need both pain relief and surface healing.

GVL Green & Violet Laser

  • Uses green (around 520 nm) and violet light to precisely target the cell’s energy‑making pathway (electron transport chain) at several steps.
  • Green light has been shown to reduce pain and inflammation and improve range of motion in just a single session.
  • Designed to optimize mitochondrial function by acting on multiple “complexes” inside the mitochondrial engine, supporting pain relief and better function.

You may see us choose one device or layer several wavelengths together depending on your condition and goals.

Conditions These Lasers Can Help

Erchonia cold lasers are FDA‑cleared for certain types of pain and are used widely for:

  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Low back pain and sciatica
  • Arthritis and joint pain (knees, hips, shoulders, hands, feet)
  • Tendon and ligament injuries (sprains, strains, tendinitis, rotator cuff issues)
  • Muscle spasms, trigger points, and sports injuries
  • Nerve‑related pain and neuropathy
  • Wound and incision healing after surgery
  • Certain skin and superficial tissue conditions (especially with violet and green light)

We often combine laser therapy with chiropractic care, soft‑tissue work, and exercise for better, longer‑lasting results.

How Cold Laser Helps Your Body Heal

At the Cellular Level

Research on low‑level lasers like Erchonia shows several key effects:

  • More cellular energy (ATP): Mitochondria absorb these specific wavelengths and produce more ATP, the fuel your cells use to repair themselves.
  • Better signaling: Light changes how cells communicate, encouraging them to move from “inflamed and stuck” to “healing and rebuilding.”
  • Reduced inflammatory chemicals: The lasers help lower pro‑inflammatory cytokines and increase anti‑inflammatory signals, which can translate into less pain and swelling.
  • Improved blood and lymph flow: Light can enhance microcirculation and fluid movement, bringing in nutrients and carrying away waste products.

At the Tissue Level

When enough cells start working better, entire tissues improve:

  • Less pain and stiffness: As inflammation drops and nerves calm down, movement becomes more comfortable.
  • Faster tissue repair: Muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, and nerves repair more efficiently, which can shorten recovery time.
  • Better joint function: Reduced swelling and better tissue quality can lead to improved range of motion and strength.

One clinical study on an Erchonia 635 nm laser (similar red wavelength) for chronic low back pain found significant pain reduction compared to a sham light, with ongoing improvement over several weeks.

Combining Laser Therapy With Exercise

Laser plus movement is often more powerful than either alone.

  • Laser helps reduce pain and inflammation, so you can move more comfortably.
  • Then we layer in specific exercises to retrain muscles, improve stability, and restore normal movement patterns.
  • As your tissues repair, exercise helps those tissues get stronger and more resilient, reducing the chance of the problem coming back.

In many treatment plans, we’ll laser the area, then immediately work through gentle mobility or strengthening drills to lock in the gains.

At‑Home Laser Rental: XLR8 & EVRL

We offer weekly or monthly rentals of the Erchonia XLR8 and EVRL so you can continue healing at home between visits.

Why 4–5 Short Sessions per Day Help (Home Rental)

Because these are very low‑intensity, non‑heating lasers, they work best with frequent, brief dosing, rather than one long blast.

Using the laser at home 4–5 times per day:

  • Provides repeated boosts of cellular energy (ATP) to the tissues that are healing.
  • Keeps inflammation and pain‑producing chemicals lower throughout the day, instead of letting them build back up between office visits.
  • Supports steady progress in wound, incision, and soft‑tissue healing after surgery or injury.

Over days and weeks, this frequent “reminder” to the cells can add up to faster healing and better function.

Helping Reduce the Need for Pain Medications

By calming pain at its source—reducing inflammation, improving circulation, and supporting tissue repair—patients often find they can cut back on pain medications sooner and more safely (always in coordination with their prescribing doctor).

  • Less pain and stiffness means you rely less on pills to get through the day.
  • Better sleep and movement because of reduced pain further accelerate healing, which again reduces medication need.

We’ll give you clear instructions on where to point the laser, how long to treat, and how often to use it based on your surgery or injury.

What to Expect During Treatment

In the office or at home, Erchonia cold laser sessions are:

  • Painless – no heat, no burning sensation.
  • Quick – usually just a few minutes per area.
  • Non‑invasive – no needles, no downtime.
  • Comfortable – most patients feel only a mild sensation or nothing at all during treatment.

If you’re recovering from surgery, dealing with chronic pain, or trying to get back to activity faster and with fewer medications, our team can help decide whether in‑office cold laser and/or an at‑home XLR8 or EVRL rental is right for you.
