Lasting Pain Relief Made Possible by the Cox Technic

The pain in your neck, your lower back, and your joints may be caused by spinal degenerative changes, disc injuries, or facet irritation. Cox Technique provides a gentle low force technique without the twisting and popping of the traditional chiropractic techniques. Here at the Palmer Chiropractic Center, we can help all Lynchburg and Altavista VA residents dealing with chronic pain by utilizing the Cox Technic.

Have you never heard of the Cox Technic before? Don’t worry because we will help you learn what you need to know.

What Is the Cox Technic?

If you are hesitant to undergo chiropractic care because it seems too forceful or too painful, do not worry.  The Cox Technic provides an alternative to conventional chiropractic care.  Cox technique is a non-surgical, gentle, well-researched, hands-on chiropractic spinal adjusting manipulation for decompressing spinal nerves and treating spine pain.  It reduces the pressure in the disk and increases the area that your nerves exit the spine and go either down your leg from your low back or down your arm from your neck.  Further, Cox Technique realigns and restores ranges of motion inherent to the spine while reducing low back or neck pain, especially in patients with pinched nerves or spinal degeneration.  It has been proven to be more effective than active exercises therapy.  Instead of utilizing manual adjustments, our chiropractor will manipulate your body with the help of a specially designed table focusing on decompressing the spine and/or opening up the joints of the spine to reduce the irritation on the joint and exiting nerve roots.

This is done manually with contact of the doctors hand on your spine combined with the movement of the specialized adjusting table.  It is not a "Traction Unit" that you get hooked up to and decompressed by a machine.  The manual technique allows for immediate alteration of pressure if discomfort is felt.

How Does the Cox Technic Improve Your Condition?

Cox Technique Flexion-Distraction and Decompression Adjusting and Manipulation creates a "push, pull, pumping" effect on the intervertebral disc spaces and allows these benefits:

  1. Increases the intervertebral disc height to remove tension on the anular fibers and the spinal nerve by making more room and improving circulation.
  2. Drops pressure within the nucleus pulposus of the disc to as low as 192 mmHg.
  3. Increases the area of the intervertebral foramen up to 28% to give the exiting nerves more space and reduce contact with it.
  4. Restores vertebral joints to their physiological relationships of motions thus realigning your spine.

The rule of thumb is that you should feel 50% relief of your pain symptoms within 3 to 4 weeks of continued, cooperative care. Periodic reexaminations will track and document your progress. If you are not showing signs of about 50% relief within 3 to 4 weeks, a referral for neurosurgical consultation may be made.

The Cox Technic can do more than just provide pain relief. As you continue to receive treatment, you may also expect your range of motion to improve. Joints that had grown stiff may become flexible again. Your circulation may also improve over time. The technique may improve your overall wellness along with getting rid of the pain that has been dragging you down for so long.

Motion is usually lost when in pain. The Cox Technique reduces pain and therefore improves the range of motion that was lost. A healthy spine and its joints have five motions: flexion, extension, lateral (side-to-side) flexion, rotation, and circmduction ()
