Tempro-mandibular Joint Dysfunction

TMJ/TMD Pain Relief and Advanced Treatment Options

If you’re experiencing jaw pain, clicking, or difficulty opening your mouth, you may be suffering from temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ or TMD). This condition affects the jaw joint and surrounding muscles, often leading to chronic discomfort, headaches, and even neck or shoulder tension. At our clinic, we use evidence-based and noninvasive therapies to address the root cause of your pain and restore healthy joint function.

Understanding TMJ/TMD

The temporomandibular joint connects your jawbone to your skull and is responsible for talking, chewing, and yawning. When this joint becomes inflamed or misaligned, it can create symptoms such as:

  • Jaw pain or stiffness
  • Clicking, popping, or grinding sounds
  • Difficulty chewing or opening the mouth
  • Headaches or earaches
  • Pain radiating into the neck and shoulders

Our personalized treatment plans combine advanced chiropractic techniques with innovative therapies to reduce pain, improve function, and prevent recurrence.

Advanced Treatment Options

Dry Needle Therapy

Dry needling releases tension and trigger points in the jaw and surrounding muscles. By inserting fine, sterile needles into specific myofascial trigger points, this technique helps relax tight muscles, improve blood flow, and decrease inflammation.
What to expect: Most patients feel a small pinch during insertion and a slight twitch response from the muscle. Relief can be felt almost immediately, with continued improvement after successive sessions.

Class IV Laser Therapy

Class IV laser therapy uses light energy to stimulate cellular repair and decrease inflammation deep within the tissue. For TMJ/TMD, the laser is directed along the jawline and neck to enhance circulation, relax muscles, and reduce joint inflammation.
What to expect: Treatment is comfortable and noninvasive. You may feel a gentle warmth in the treated area, and sessions typically last 5–10 minutes. Many patients notice pain relief and improved jaw mobility after just a few treatments.

Stimpod 460 Neuromodulation Therapy

The Stimpod 460 delivers advanced pulsed electromagnetic stimulation that helps reset nerve communication and reduce muscle tension and inflammation around the TMJ. This neuromodulation therapy is especially effective for persistent or nerve-related jaw pain.
What to expect: The device is applied externally, and you may feel a mild pulsing or tingling sensation. Treatments are quick—usually less than 15 minutes—and painless. Patients often experience noticeable relaxation and improved jaw movement afterward.

What You’ll Experience at Our Clinic

Your first visit begins with a comprehensive evaluation of your jaw alignment, muscle tension, and overall posture. Based on your findings, we’ll recommend a customized treatment plan that may include one or a combination of the therapies above. Our goal is to relieve pain, restore normal jaw function, and help you live free from TMJ discomfort.
